Linocolor software was the powerful high-end scanning software developed by Linotype-Hell initially for use on all high-end scanners such as the
Chromagraph drum scanner range, Tango and PrimeScan vertical drum machines and Topaz and Nexscan flatbed scanners.
Derivative versions of Linocolor were then developed in the form of Linocolor Elite and Linocolor Lite to drive ranges of desktop A4 and A3 scanners
manufactured in the 1990s, these were the renowned Linotype Jewel scanners, Linotype Jade, Linotype Saphir, Linotype Saphir Ultra, Linotype Opal,
Linotype Opal Ultra and Linotype Circon. These machines were later replaced by the Heidelberg Linoscan range: the Linoscan 1200, Linoscan 1400,
Linoscan 1450, Linoscan 1800, Linoscan 2200, Linoscan 2400, Linoscan 2650 and the Heidelberg Quickstep.
CPS sold these machines extensively in the UK. More than 16,000 units were sold, many of which continue to be cherished by users who appreciate
the exceptional build quality and outstanding results provided by these machines.
Unfortunately, these scanners and Linocolor software are all now obsolete
(since 2002) with Linocolor being limited to operation in OS9 only.
WE MUST EMPHASISE THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO OSX VERSION OF LINOCOLOR OR ANY OSX DRIVER AVAILABLE THAT WILL WORK WITH LINOCOLOR.
If you do require OSX compatibility all is not lost - we can provide an alternative scanning software solution in the form of SilverFast with a special driver for certain Jewel and Linoscan
machines -
WE CAN PROVIDE AN OSX SILVERFAST/FIREWIRE CONVERSION PACKAGE FOR SOME SCANNER MODELS, please contact CPS for further details. SilverFast will drive
most Jewel and Linoscan models in OSX but there are some limitations: connectivity is via SCSI ports only so you will need a suitable FireWire convertor to connect to a Mac FireWire port.
Please refer to the SilverFast pdf download for compatibility options and then contact CPS for current prices and further information.
PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, the Jade and Linoscan 1200 scanners are not supported by Silverfast so there is absolutely no OSX solution for these machines.
